Hungry Ghost Bread Medicinal Garden and Amphitheater

A garden filled with medicinal plants replaces a lawn and brings functional beauty to a public location.

The Hungry Ghost Medicinal Garden and Amphitheater

In the spring of 2017, the area in front of Hungry Ghost Bread in Northampton, once covered by lawn, was transformed into a beautiful garden filled exclusively with medicinal plants. The garden also includes a small stone amphitheater nestled into the landscape. This unique garden space is an inviting urban oasis available for everyone to use. It was installed entirely by volunteers and the plants and materials were procured at cost by Local Harmony. All funding was raised from within the immediate community. The garden was designed by Abound Design and Clearpath Herbals provided consulting on the medicinal plants that are central to this garden.

The Medicinal Garden and Amphitheater is made possible only with strong community support: over 350 volunteer hours were donated; Smith College generously committed towards materials; Ashfield Stone donated native stone. It is entirely due to community support that this beautiful educational garden exists!
